about

The idea of this was to combine Otis Redding’s Sitting on the Dock of Bay with the perspective of a refugee (or of myself as a refugee) sitting in some port trying to flee to a better life. Though not all lines are perfect I’m quite happy with how this turned out and it ties the record nicely together thematically and musically. The strings and tubular bells are from Garritan’s Personal Orchestra.

lyrics

Sitting in the morning sun
I'll be sitting when the evening comes
Watching the ships roll in
then watch them roll away again

I can't go on and I can't go back
Don't know what's ahead of me
I know I lost what I had
I'm just watching the tide
Go in and go out
and wait and wait and wait

I used to live a peacefull life
We were blessed with wealth and happiness
Unexpectedly one night
The rebels came and made this mess
Highly organized and armed
I saw no other way than flee
My father and my sister died
Now all I have left is me

I can't go on and I can't go back
Don't know what's ahead of me
I know I lost what I had
I'm just watching the tide
Go in and go out
and wait and wait and wait

I don't want help from anyone
I'm a proud and independent man
But somewhere under the sun
must be a place to start again
I still don't know where is mine
I guess that means that I will stay
just sitting here, wasting time
Looks like nothings gonna come my way

I can't go on and I can't go back
Don't know what's ahead of me
I know I lost what I had
I'm just watching the tide
Go in and go out
and wait and wait and wait
